Vachana Translation:
You are the forests out there,
You are the celestial trees in the forests,
You are the birds and animals moving about in the trees.
Chenna-mallikarjuna ,
You permeating in everything kindly show your face to me in your true splendid form.
— Veera Viragini Akka MahadevI
Meaning:
Chennamallikarjuna my God, I see you everywhere and in everything. I see you in the forests, in trees of the forests who have become devine with your presence, in birds and animals roaming among these trees of the forests. You permeate everywhere and in everything. Kindly show your face in your true splendid wholesome form.Akka Mahadevi is so deeply immersed in her love and devotion that she sees and feels His presence in everything and every where.
Here Akka Mahadevi is in 'Savichara samadhi.' Savichara involves meditating on the object as focus of meditation with love and devotion leading to samadhi, the stage in which a yogi feels as one with the universe. There is entire absorption, and a conviction that it is all and is everything and everywhere. Mallikarjuna is the focus of meditation of Akka and hence' He' is seen in everything and everywhere to Akka. The object of meditation is not standing above the world somewhere in heaven; It includes the whole universe and the seer.( seeker or sadhaka.)
There is a transcendent perception. The seer is not you, not that which is beheld, but another thing which beholds both. There is no inside or outside in samadhi. It is the blending together and sadhaka become universalised. The highest purity of mind, great dispassion, and tremendous love for God are necessary for this stage of meditation which Akka possessed.
ಶರಣೆಯ ಸಂಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತ ಪರಿಚಯ:
Sharane Akka Mahadevi a short introduction:
Akka Mahadevi was born
(around 1130) in Udutadi, near Shivamogga Karnataka, to parents Nirmalshetti and Sumati, who were both devotees of Shiva.
A local Jain king named Kaushika sought to marry her. She rejected his proposal and chose spiritual enlightenment and union with God. She left for Shrishailam a popular pilgrimage centre of God Mallikarjuna (Shiva). On the way she stayed for some days at Kalyan to meet Basavanna and other sharanas. She took part in discussions at Anubhavamantapa in Kalyana to debate about philosophy and attainment of enlightenment or "Arivu". Akka (elder Sister), which is a name given to her by Basavanna, Siddharama,Chennabasavanna Allamaprabhu and all Sharanas is an indication of her contribution to the spiritual discussions held at the Anubhava Mantapa. She is known to have considered the God Chenna Mallikarjuna which is another name of Shiva as her husband.
She rejected her life of luxury to live as a wandering poet-saint, travelling throughout the region and singing praises to her God Mallikarjuna.
She went to the Srisailam mountains and Kadali vana where she lived as an ascetic. In search for her eternal soul mate, Lord Shiva, she made the animals, flowers, trees and birds her friends and companions.
