Part-1
Part-1
Japa means repeating the name of the personal God or mantra.
The reasoning for japa is the glory of the God cannot be established through reasoning and intellect. It can be experienced or realized only through devotion, faith and constant repetition of the Name. The name of the personal God generates God-consciousness in the purified mind and becomes the direct cause of the realization of the Highest Perfection or God, bringing the aspirant into blissful union with the Lord through Bhava-Samadhi. Japa gives Peace, Bliss and courage to face hostile situation. There are five different types of japa. They are:
1.Vaikhari (loud audible),The seeker practice the japa by repeating the mantra loudly. In vaikhari japa there is effort to pronounce every syllable accurately.
2.Upamshu (whispering), (madhyama Japa)The seeker although practice japa without making any sound but his lips movements are there.
3.Manasika (mental, Pashyanti japa)
In the manasika japa there is no involvement of the lips, tongue or throat muscles. In this kind of japa the seeker is at a very advance stage and even his lips movement are not visible as he practice the mantra within his self.
4. Ajapa japa (Para japa)
When the mental repetition becomes spontaneous and without any effort, it is called ajapa japa or the highest form of japa. Ajapa involves chanting a mantra without any mental effort, whilst maintaining absolute awareness on the mantra. The seeker is at most advanced stage and the mantra is so deeply seated in his heart that even without his practice the vibrations of same are on in his self, leaving a positive effect. It is said to be one thousand times more effective than upamshu japa and thus 100 000 times more effective than vaikhari japa.
Ajapa meditation helps one to withdraw from the senses and awaken the self-awareness.
5.Lakhita (written).Write down daily in a notebook your God's name or a Mantra clearly for half an hour. When you write the Mantra, observe silence. This is Likhita
Japa gives power of concentration.
Try to associate the Japa with the rhythm of the breath and meditate in the form of your Deity. Do mental Japa for a time. When the mind wanders, do the Japa aloud, or whisper the Mantra for some time and come back to mental Japa again as soon as possible.
Irrespective of the type of japa, it should be practiced with a lot of faith and devotion to get quick results.
